Craig, son of Arlo and Jessie (Sonksen) Pfannkuch, was born January 22, 1954, in Manning, Iowa. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He attended Manning Schools and was graduated from Manning High School in 1972.
Following graduation "Couf" worked in Omaha and Ames. In 1975, he returned to Manning where he worked for MJM Enterprises until 1983. He then was employed at Midwest Industries in Ida Grove where he made his home. "Couf" became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove on August 10, 1986.
On June 28, 1980, "Couf" was united in marriage with Christy Benson of Schleswig, Iowa. One son Cody A. Pfannkuch was born to this union on February 6, 1982.
"Couf" died on Saturday evening, April 18, 1987, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove at the age of 33 years, 2 months, and 27 days, and was buried in the Manning Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie, on November 19, 1983, and by his nephew, Shawn Heiman, on June 29, 1985.
"Couf" is survived by his wife, Christy J. Pfannkuch of Ida Grove and his son Cody, by his father Arlo Pfannkuch of Manning, Iowa, by his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Marge Benson of Schleswig; by the following brothers and sister; Wayne and his wife Irene, of Rancho Palos Verdes, California; Janice and her husband, Roger Heiman of Manilla; and Bruce and his wife Rita of Ida Grove; by six brothers and sisters-in-law, all of the Schleswig area; by nine nieces and nephews and by other relatives and friends.
In honor of Craig's ideals, may we remember him as when he lived - riding into the wind with a smile on his face.
