Cletus Winker
Mass of the Christian burial for Cletus Raymond "Red" Winker of Glidden will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church at Glidden.
Cletus, 75, died Thursday, October 30 at VA Medical Center in Des Moines following a short illness.
The Rev. Ed Tiedeman will preside at the Mass. Lectors will be Tammy Winker and Susan Winker. Gift bearers will be Mr. Winker's grandchildren: Brandi, Erin and Avery Winker. Servers will be Tyler Headlee and Tanner Headlee. Eucharistic ministers will be Jerry Mathine, Rita Mathine and Martha Buelt.
Casket bearers will be nephews John Borden, Kevin Winker and Mark Hopfinger; and grandchildren Jason Winker, Krystin Winker and Dylan Winker. The Glidden American Legion will give military honors.
Burial will be in Carroll Cemetery.
Visitation starts at 2:30 p.m., a rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. and a Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mary Indian Mission, Box 39, Tohatchi, New Mexico, 87325 in lieu of flowers.
A son of Arthur E. and Henrietta (Rust) Winker, he was born April 26, 1933, at Carroll, grew up in Carroll and attended Carroll High School. He attended a seminary at Perrysville, Missouri, for two years, enlisted in the Navy a nd served four years during the Korean Conflict.
He and Jeanette Fink were married April 20, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning (Jeanette is the daughter of the late Orval & Vera Fink of Manning).
The Winkers owned and operated Glidden Body Shop for 35 years.
Mr. Winker was a member of St. Elizabeth Parish and the American Legion in Glidden and enjoyed playing cards, golfing and repairing cars.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette, of Glidden; four sons and their wives: Arthur and Tammy Winker of Glidden, Eric and Susan Winker of Carroll, Don and Elizabeth Winker of West Des Moines and Mark Winker and fiancee Kara Linde of Glidden; three sisters: Thelma Waltz of Sioux City, Isabelle Hopfinger of Kansas City, Missouri, and Therese Borden of West Des Moines; and a brother, Daryl Winker, and his wife, Inez, of Carroll.
Mr. Winker was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings: Arthur Winker in infancy, Donald Winker, Robert Winker, Joseph Winker, Lorraine Curran and husband Ed, and Ruth Henney and husband Robert; and a brother-in-law, Leo Hopfinger.
