Claus Henry Wittrock
Scarcely had the residents of Halbur and vicinity recovered from the shock occasioned by the sudden death of Henry Wittrock, when another death of a prominent citizen created consternation. Claus Henry Wittrock of whose seemingly slight illness mention was made last week, died at 12:45 Monday morning, November 19, 1906. His ailment was heart trouble which baffled all medical skill.

Claus Wittrock was born in Kirchspiel, Brunsbuettel, S. Dithmarschen, Holstein, Germany, July 21, 1853.

He came to America with his parents in 1867. They first resided for three years at Davenport, Iowa, then removed to Benton County and in 1874 came to Carroll County, the parents purchasing a farm in Washington Township where the son resided at the time of his death.

November 29, 1877, he was united in marriage with Miss Marie Anna Hausmann and to this union were born fourteen children, eight sons and six daughters. Of these Henry lives at Emory, South Dakota; Katy, Mrs. Henry Dunning at Anton, Oklahoma; and the others are living at the parental home except Mary who died at the age of 16.

Mr. Wittrock was a progressive upright citizen and well educated.

He was repeatedly urged to seek a nomination for county office on account of his excellent qualifications.

He held various township offices and filled these with honesty and credit. He was a good manager and owned one of the finest farm homes in this vicinity. The blow to the family is indeed a sad one. All that friends can do is being done to lighten their burden of sorrow. With these good friends we unite our sympathy to the bereaved ones. May He Whose mercy we implore for the one coming before His Throne, pour the balm of Christian consolation into their hearts in this their dark hour.

The funeral is to take place here on Thursday forenoon, Halbur, Iowa, November 19, 1906.
