Services Held For Claus Nielsen
Funeral services for Claus Nielsen, retired Manning businessman, were held at the Ohde Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. Harlan Kruse of the Presbyterian Church officiated. Music was by the Presbyterian quartet, accompanied by Bonita (Mrs. Henry W.) Hagedorn. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Nielsen suffered a stroke a week ago and died Sunday afternoon, April 27, 1952. In August 1951, he had undergone surgery, and had not been entirely well since.

Born June 17, 1873, in Erfde, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, he came to Durant, Iowa, at the age of 10 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claus Nielsen. He came to Manning May 11, 1906, following his marriage May 3, the same year, to Marie Strosahl in Davenport.

From 1907 until 1914, the couple managed the Uthoff Hotel in Manning, and purchased the Gotch Harness Shop in 1907. Mr. Nielsen was in the harness business until 1944. In 1940, the couple purchased Hotel Manning, which they operated six years.

In 1946, Mr. Nielsen retired. They lived in South Manning from 1946 until 1950, then moved to their present home on Main Street.

Mr. Nielsen is survived by his wife; a son, Claus Nielsen, Jr., son-in-law, Fred Nulle; seven grandchildren, Roger, Beverly, and Larry Nielsen, and Joyce, Kathryn, Freddie, and Janet Nulle; two brothers, John and Henry of Durant, who attended the funeral; a brother-in-law, Claus Strosahl and his family, and a cousin, Mrs. Herman Ahrendsen, of Manning.

A daughter, Mrs. Nulle died a year ago; A sister is also deceased.
