MR. MUNDT DIES AT 81

CAIRO - Claudius Mundt, 81, a longtime area resident, died this morning in an area hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Apfel Memorial Chapel at Cairo with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery at Grand Island. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.

Mr. Mundt was born to Henry and Anna Edwards Mundt October 9, 1881, at Clinton, Iowa. The family moved to Manning, Iowa. when he was 11 and he grew up there. On December 20, 1906, he married Amanda Pauline Lammers of Upland. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1958. Mrs. Mundt died in 1961.

After their marriage the couple farmed in Iowa until 1918, when they moved to Upland. They lived in Franklin County until 1927 when they moved to a farm near Lexington. In 1947 they moved to a farm near Grand Island, and later moved to Cairo. Since the death of his wife, he had lived with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cranford. Mr. Mundt was baptized in the Lutheran faith as a child.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Cranford of Cairo, Mrs. Martin Keeler of Wood River, Mrs. Leo Marick of Lexington, and Amanda Mundt of Greeley, Colo.; three sons, LaVern and Erline Mundt of Greeley, Colo., and Clarence Mundt of Lexington, 23 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; a brother, John Mundt of Lexington , a sister, Mrs. Amanda Puck of Manning.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister and two grandchildren.
