Claribel Sievers, age 85, of rural Coon Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at her home near Coon Rapids.
A private funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and vocalist will be John Richardson. Casket bearers will be Claribel's grandchildren.
A public graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at Orange Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Coon Rapids.
Claribel was born on March 29, 1935, on her family's farm south of Coon Rapids, and she was the daughter of Harry Sr. and Grace (Drake) Olesen. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1953. She then worked at the D&D Café. This is where she learned to make pies which she was famous for.
She was married to Merlin Sievers on February 2, 1954, at the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids. The couple soon purchased their farm south of Coon Rapids, where they raised their four children and Claribel was very active with the farming operation. She was active with the First Christian Church and in later years the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Needle Club, which she enjoyed hosting. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking, and helping others whenever the opportunity arose.
Claribel is survived by her four children and their families, Thomas (Debra), Cindy (Michael), Nancy (Scott), and Joseph (Lisa); seven grandchildren, Eric (Amanda), Todd, Ben (Sarah), Adam, Matthew (Cassandra), Amy, and Tyler; six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Thomas, Natalie, Lucas, Emily and Summer; two sisters, Eunice and Maryann; a brother, Max (Karen); a sister-in-law, Joan; and many nieces and nephews.
Claribel was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin, in 2020; her parents, Harry Sr. and Grace Olesen; her in-laws, Herman and Esther Sievers; six brothers, Harry Jr. (Evelyn), Howard (Helen), Earl (Jessie), William (Barbara), Robert (Jeri), and Jens; two sisters, Naomi Golay (Ernest) and Ramona Richardson (Charles); and a grandson, Ryan Hagan, in 2006.
