Mass of Christian Burial for Clarence Vonnahme was held Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Church in Arcadia, Iowa. Reverend John Thomas was Celebrant and Reverend Robert Gralapp was Concelebrant. Lector was Paul Vonnahme. Mass servers were Matt Vonnahme and Joe Vonnahme. Gift bearers were Krista Berger, Karen Vonnahme, Lisa Scott and Jill Vonnahme. Music was provided by the St. John's Choir with Darlene Leiting as organist. Casketbearers were grandchildren Maria Vonnahme, Eddie Vonnahme, Jeff Vonnahme, Brian Wittrock, Nick Berger, and Amber Vonnahme. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning, Iowa. A Rosary and Prayer Service were held at Ohde Funeral Home on Monday, February 13.

Clarence John, son of Henry and Sophia (Odendahl) Vonnahme, was born December 12, 1920, at Mt. Carmel, Iowa. After completing his schooling in Mt. Carmel and because his father had died, he helped his mother farm the family farm.

On February 5, 1947, Clarence was united in marriage with Caroline Irlmeier at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton with Mgsr. Huesmann officiating. Six children were born to this union. The family lived on a farm three miles north of Manning where Clarence was engaged in livestock and grain farming. He also did some custom tiling in the area. They belonged to Sacred Heart Parish in Manning where Clarence served on the Parish Council during the building of the CCD Center. He enjoyed attending livestock auctions and was known for his ability to witch wells. After forty-five years on the farm, Clarence and Caroline retired and moved to Arcadia. They joined St. John's Parish in Arcadia. During retirement, Clarence enjoyed playing cards.

After knee surgery in early December 2005, Clarence started having other health problems. He died on Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center, in Manning, Iowa, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 30 days.

Preceding Clarence in death are his parents; 2 grandchildren Steven and Scott Wittrock, in infancy; 4 brothers: Fred Vonnahme; Carl Vonnahme; Ray Vonnahme and Ferdinand Vonnahme, as a youth; 3 sisters: Gertrude Vonnahme; Margaret Wieland and Rita Nepple; sister-in-law Bertha Vonnahme and 4 brothers-in-law: Art Wieland; Norbert Wieland; Al Nepple and Paul Kasperbauer.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years Caroline Vonnahme of Arcadia; 6 children: Tom Vonnahme and wife Maureen of Vail; David Vonnahme and wife Janice of Westside; Don Vonnahme and wife Teresa of Manning; Nancy and husband Darrell Wittrock of Audubon and Laurie and husband Melvin Berger of Westside; Mike Vonnahme and wife Pat of Manning; 26 grand-children; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Erwin Vonnahme and wife Rita of Arcadia and sister Teresa Kasperbauer of Templeton; 5 sisters-in-law Rita Stangl of Manning; Delores Vonnahme and Cecelia Vonnahme of Mount Carmel; Catherine Irlmeier of Manning and Mary Ann Irlmeier of Templeton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ohde Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
