Christoffer Wiese Dead.
June 10, 1909 Manning Monitor
Another old settler of Carroll County, a veteran of the
German and French war of 1870-71, has passed away. He was born January 4, 1839,
in the city of Schoenberg, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. In the year 1865 he
went to the island of Alsen, where he worked for
seventeen consecutive years. He was married in 1869 to Anna Bergmann, five
children being born to them: Christian, Fritz, Helene, Mary and Niels.
Christian and Mary died in childhood. In 1882 he
came to America and settled in North Hampton, Connecticut. In 1884 they moved
to Carroll County, on a farm north of Manning, where they lived for several
years, and later moved to Manning where he has since resided. Mr. Wiese has
always been a very hardworking man. He was taken sick the forepart of last
winter and gradually grew worse until his death. He died at his home in
Manning, June 4, at the age of 70 years and 5 months. He leaves besides his
wife, three children, Fred, Helene and Neils, to
mourn his loss. The funeral took place at the home, June 7, Rev. Faust, of
Westside, officiating, after which the remains were interred in the Manning
Cemetery, followed by a long concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.
Mr. Wiese was a member of the Krieger Verein and Schuetzen Verein.
