Mrs. John Steinhauer

Funeral services for Mrs. John Steinhauer of Manning will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John M. Ansorge in charge. Interment will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.

Mrs. Steinhauer passed away on Tuesday at the Tyrone Nursing Home in Carroll, where she had been cared for during recent months.

Christine Bauer was born September 16, 1888, in Friedrichskoog, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and at the age of 16 she came to America, coming to Arcadia. She was employed at Westside until her marriage to John Steinhauer. One son was born to this union but he passed away in infancy.

In 1925, Mrs. Steinhauer suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered. On March 1, this year, Mrs. Steinhauer was rendered speechless following a paralysis of the vocal cords and soon thereafter she was taken to Tyrone Nursing Home in Carroll where she passed away Tuesday afternoon.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Steinhauer is survived by brothers, William Bauer of Manning, Louis Bauer of Westside, Adolph Bauer of Audubon, and Paul and Karl in Germany; sisters, Mrs. Sophie Stoffers of Arcadia, Mrs. Emma Thies of Denison, and Mrs. Dora Clausen in Germany.

Steinhauer Funeral Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. John Steinhauer, who passed away last Tuesday following a lingering illness, were conducted by the Rev. John M. Ansorge from Zion Lutheran Church here Friday afternoon, with interment following in the Arcadia Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Vollstedt, Carl Kuhl, Herbert Groteluschen, Hugo Ress, Emil Kuhl, and Herman Meyer.

Those from a distance attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Mary Dose and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Dose of Danbury, Mr. and Mrs. Hannes Thies and daughter of Denison, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Bauer of Auburn, Mrs. John Meyer and son, Johnnie of Valparaiso, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dehning and daughter of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Herman and Christine Kusel of Irvington, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Steinhauer of Arnolds Park, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Sievers and daughter, Mrs. Art Guy and husband of Austin, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eglers of Storm Lake, Elmer Meyers of Rochester, Wisconsin, and many other relatives and friends from Carroll, Westside, Arcadia, Vail, Wall Lake, and Breda.

As stated last week, Mrs. Steinhauer, nee Christine Bauer, was born September 16, 1888 in Friedrichskoog, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, a daughter of Ludwig and Sophia Bauer. She was baptized and confirmed in the Old Country and at the age of 16 came to America, going to the home of her Uncle Peter Dose, at Arcadia. She worked as a housekeeper at Westside until her marriage to Mr. Steinhauer January 19, 1910.

To this union was born one son who died in infancy. Preceding her in death, besides her son, were her parents and a sister in Germany, one sister and two brothers in this country.

Mrs. Steinhauer had been in poor health since 1925, suffering recurring attacks until she was confined to her home since March 1944. On March 1 of this year, another attack left her speechless and helpless. She passed away at the Tyrone Nursing Home in Carroll on Tuesday September 3, at 1:12 o'clock at the age of 57 years, 11 months, and 17 days.
