Christine Maria Hansen Schroeder

DEATH CALLS MRS. J. SCHROEDER AT AGE OF 79 YEARS
Born in Germany - Came to America in 1869 and Lived in Crawford Since 1888

At 4:15 p.m. of Thursday, July 29th, one of the old residents of Schleswig was called. Mrs. Joachim Schroeder passed away quietly at her home at the age of 79 years, 1 month, and 26 days. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the home at 1:30 p.m. and at 2:00 o'clock at Friedens Evangelical Church, Rev. W.G. Mauch officiating. Burial was made in Morgan Township Cemetery.

Christine M. Schroeder, nee Hansen, was born June 3, 1847, at Hadstedt, Kreis Husum, Germany. She received a very thorough Christian instruction, as customary. In 1869 she came to America, stopping in Clinton County. While there she made the acquaintance of Joachim Schroeder, with whom she united in matrimony in 1871. Eleven children were born to this union, two preceding the mother into eternity, namely, Margarete (Mrs. Peter Jepsen), and Cornelius.

They lived in Clinton County on a farm until 1884, moving then to Jones County, where they resided for four years. Five years they spent near Aspinwall, finally moving onto a farm in Goodrich Township.

In 1907 they moved to Schleswig to spend their declining years. Very soon Mrs. Schroeder endeared herself to her neighbors by her amiability, and she was greatly respected and loved. She was a good Christian woman: God's word was dear to her, and when defective hearing finally kept her from attending the Divine services, Christian literature supplied her needs. For quite a number of years she was a member of the Ladies Aid of Friedens Evangelical Church.

She was sick a great deal, but usually was able to rally sufficiently to visit with friends and neighbors. About a week before she passed away, she became ill again; her illness soon became more serious. She felt that the end was near, and was ready to "go home". Without much suffering she quietly passed away.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband to whom for 55 years she had been a faithful and loving wife; nine children: Louis Schroeder of Aspinwall; Thomas Schroeder of Goodrich Township; William Schroeder of Bloomfield, Nebraska; Henry Schroeder of Bloomfield, Nebraska; Joe Schroeder of Bloomfield, Nebraska; Lena (Mrs. Herman Schuett) of Bloomfield, Nebraska; August Schroeder of Round Lake, Minnesota; Fred Schroeder of Goodrich Township; Herman Schroeder of Round Lake, Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Friedrichsen of Bloomfield, Nebraska; Mrs. Claus Moers of Mason City, Iowa; two brothers, Cornelius and Thomas Hansen, both residing at Minneapolis, Minnesota; also 44 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
