Christine E. Sanders
Funeral services for Christine E. Sanders was held Thursday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Reverent Kurt R. Kaiser officiating. Casketbearers were Michael Servoss, Leonard Cose, Dick and Rich Knowles, Jerry Swanson, Don Burgess, Chuck Martin and Clayton Meyer. Interment was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.
Christine E. Sanders was born at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, June 5, 1909, the daughter of John E. and Augusta Kohlstrom Swanson. She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace as an infant in Cedar Rapids through the Sacrement of Holy Baptism and confirmed in her Christian Faith as an adult in Manning, Iowa.
She was graduated from the Anamosa High School with the Class of 1927 and received her bachelor degrees in Home Economics and Household Electrical Equipment from Iowa State University in 1931.
Christine loved working with youth which was evidenced in her thirty-four year teaching career in the Lone Tree, Denison and Manning School Systems.
On May 10, 1935 Christine was united in marriage with Arnold H. Sanders at Denison, Iowa where they made their home. In 1945 they moved to Manning where Mr. Sanders owned and published the Manning Monitor for 19 years and Christine taught math and home economics.
They returned to Denison in 1964 where she resumed teaching in 1966. Arnold died in 1970 and Christine continued teaching until her retirement in 1973.
Christine died Monday morning, May 23, 1994, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 84 years, 11 months and 18 days.
Including her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Swanson, and three sisters, Julia Krug, Thelma Ripka and Iva Simmer.
Those who remain to cherish her memory include her nephew, Michael Servoss and good friends, Alice and Leonard Cose of Denison who assisted her in needs through the years. Other nieces and nephews include Barbara and Neal Moeller of Denison, Kathleen M. Janing of Omaha, Joyce Mulligan of Omaha, Cecilia and Edward Arnold of Des Moines, Reinhold and Barb Simmer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Nadine and Reinhold Weed of Cedar Rapids, Bernice and Dr. Robert Johnson of Bolton Landing, New York, Albert and Lola Mae Krug of Newhall, Iowa, Fred Bayer of Victor, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Gorman of Austin, Texas, Arnold and Elsie Hadenfeld of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. O'Conner of La Grange, Illinois, Mrs. Bob Stumph of Cedar Rapids, Pat and Berni Van Fleet of Petaluma, California, and Susan and Gary Weed of Louisville, Kentucky. Also surviving are other relatives and a host of friends.
