Christina Mohr
Funeral services for Christina Anna Louise Mohr were held Wednesday, August 30, 1995 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Fern Jensen as organist.
Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa with James Mohr, Rick Mohr, Jeff Mohr, Jay Mohr, Steven Mohr, Robin Mohr, Randall Mohr, and Danny Mohr as casketbearers.
Honorary casketbearers were Scott Mohr, Jonathan Mohr, Keith Fahey, Mark Mohr, Karl Fahey and Johnny Holtz.
Christina, daughter of Jens and Dorothea Asmus Sonksen, was born November 17, 1905 in Douglas Township, Audubon County, Iowa. She attended parochial school at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township.
February 17, 1926, Christina was united in marriage with George Mohr. Six children, Franklin, Robert, Russell, Louise, Allen and Sandra, were born to this union. Christina and her husband lived in Manning for a short time and then moved to a farm where they lived until the early 1960's when they returned to Manning to make their home.
Christina's husband died in 1982 and the next year she moved to Ukiah, California to be near her daughter, Sandy. This May the family moved to Woodbridge, California and, because of failing health, Christina became a resident of Gross Convalescent Hospital in nearby Lodi, California. She died there on Thursday morning, August 24, 1995 at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Besides her husband, Christina was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bernard and Julius Sonksen; a sister, Jessie Pfannkuch; a grandson, Mike Mohr; and a son-in-law, Terry Mishler.
Survivors include her children: Franklin Mohr and his wife, Arlene, of Manning; Robert Mohr and his wife, Myra, of Oakland; Russell Mohr and his wife, Joan, of Manning; Louise Mishler, of Sacramento, California; Allen Mohr and his wife, Lola, of Arcadia, Wisconsin; and Sandra and her husband, John Holtz, of Woodbridge, California; 28 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; a brother, Herman Sonksen, and his wife, Gladys, of Early; the following brothers-in-law: Arlo Pfannkuch, of Manning; Chris Mohr and his wife, Lillian, of Council Bluffs; and Herman Asmus, of Harlan; a sister-in-law, Lorraine and her husband, Leroy Larsen, of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Christina was an active member of Zion Lutheran Congregation in Manning, and of the Dorcas Society and LWML. She maintained strong church ties while she was in California. Christina spent much of her life raising her family. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking. As a young woman she worked helping others in home economics through the county extension service.
