Charles Vandeman
Charles Vandeman, son of Joseph and Martha Vandeman, was born May 2, 1872, in Brown County, Indiana. He died March 3, 1955, at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and one day.

At the age of nine after the death of his father he moved with his mother to Indianapolis. When he was twelve they came to Jasper, Iowa, and four years later settled on a farm near Botna in Shelby County.

He was united in marriage with Nellie May Holmes at her home near Botna. A son, Murrell Dewey and a daughter Elsie, was born to this union.

Mr. Vandeman established a garage business in Botna which he operated until his retirement in 1942. The couple made their home in Botna until the last few years when they went to live with their daughter on a farm near Botna. He was a member of the United Brethren Church in Botna.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Elsie Moore and son, Murrell Dewey of Council Bluffs. Also four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church at Botna Sunday, March 6 with Clergyman Lotis H. Miller of Omaha officiating. The Ohde funeral home at Manning was in charge. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Irwin, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Ernest Ehlers, Fred Nulle, George Justice, Robert Campbell, Charles H. Ramsey, and Charley "Burl" Weems.
