Funeral services for Charles William Stuhr were held Thursday, November 14, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Marshall Brown of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning, Iowa, officiated the service with Connie Siepker as organist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with Dale Rowedder, Dennis Rowedder, Lowell Rickers, Louis Broich, Allen Rowedder, and Gene Schatz as casketbearers.
Charles, son of Charles and Emma (Bock) Stuhr, was born September 30, 1904, near Manning, Iowa. He attended country schools near his home and after finished his schooling, worked on the family farm. On January 19, 1927, Charles was united in marriage with Elda Rowedder. They farmed several different places near Manning and the surrounding area until 1964 when they retired and moved into town. At that time Charles began working as a custodian in the Manning schools. In 1981 his wife died and Charles remained in their home until July of 1991 when he entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.
Charles was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. His major delight in his spare time was fishing and he also enjoyed traveling.
Charles died suddenly on Tuesday, November 12, 1991, at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 13 days.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; by a son, Robert in 1937; by a granddaughter, Tamara Wegner; by four brothers: Louie, Herman, Alfred, and Arthur; and by four sisters: two who died in childhood, and Marie Jensen and Emma Frye.
Charles is survived by a son, Daryl, and his wife, Lin, of Peru, Illinois; two daughters: Betty and her husband, Robert Grundmeier, of Lake View and Joyce and her husband, Allen Wegner, of Fairfax, Virginia; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Day, of Glidden and Mrs. Edna Klinkefus, of Carroll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
