Charles M. Shumaker Dead
We are informed by Frank L. Shumaker of Bronson, Iowa, that his brother, Charles M. Shumaker died at his home at Philadelphia Pennsylvania, on April 6th. It seems he had been lingering for some time with typhoid fever and died from the effects of this. He will be remembered by Manning people as he was reared on a farm just northwest of town a few miles and afterwards resided in Manning for some years where he has many friends.

Charles M. Shumaker was born in Scott County, Iowa, March 3, 1869 and died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 6th 1905. In 1874 he emigrated with his parents to Crawford County, where they resided on a farm 8 miles northwest of Manning, and moved to Manning in 1883. Charles received his education in the Manning High School and was for a long time in the employ of Dr. Barber where he learned the drug business. He was later engaged in the drug business at Mapleton Iowa. He was a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and for several years was a successful traveling salesman for several large wholesale drug houses. He was schooled in pharmacy and there were few who knew the drug business better. At the time of his death be was engaged in the drug business at Philadelphia and was enjoying a good trade.

He leaves a wife and one son, also two brothers and two sisters, John G. Shumaker, of Sioux City; Frank L. Shumaker, of Bronson; Mrs. C.L. VanPatten of Antioch, Illinois; and Mrs. S.B. Daughenbaugh of Anita, Iowa, to mourn his death. Mrs. Van Patten and J.G. Shumaker were with him at the time of his death. He was buried in Philadelphia.
