Death Summons Mrs. Schrum, Sr.
Mrs. Henry Schrum, Sr., 85, a long time Manning resident, died at her home about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. She had been ill two years.

Katherine Elizabeth Bade was born Jan. 15, 1868, in Wedel Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. She came to this country in 1889 and settled at Manning.

On Aug. 4, 1890, she was united in marriage to Henry Schrum of Manning where Mr. Schrum was in the shoe repair business. Later they farmed west of Manning. In 1917 they retired from active farm life and moved to Manning.

She is survived by two sons and four daughters, W.C. Schrum, Manning; Henry Schrum, Jr., Manning; Mrs. (Minnie) Kruse, Manning; Mrs. (Alma) Frahm, Manning; Mrs. (Leona) Babl, Rock Rapids; Mrs. (Margaret) Oeser, Oakland, Calif. Her husband preceded her in death in 1932; also two children.
A brother and sister are living in Germany. There are 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Schrum was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany.

Funeral services for the deceased were held Monday, Nov. 16, at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. J. M. Ansorge officiating. Burial was in Manning cemetery.

Pall bearers were her six grandsons: Wallace Babl, Bob Babl, Ray Kruse, Robert Kruse, Don Schrum and Ray Schrum.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mrs. H. Oeser of Oakland, Calif., George Ladiges of Elmhurst, Ill., Mrs. Ken Getman of Laverne, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Leo Babl and sons of Rock Rapids, Bob Babl of Iowa City, Wallace Babl of Rock Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Don Schrum and son of Missouri Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Al Stiener of Westside, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Babl of Mapleton, Mrs. Vern Teifenthaler of Halbur, John Joens, and Mrs. Clyde Birch of Carroll.


Catherine Schrum is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
