Catherine, daughter of James and Anna (Donaldson) Dalgety, was born May 9, 1900, in Forfarshire, Scotland. She moved to the United States with her family in 1904, settling in Botna, Iowa. As a young child she attended rural schools near her home, later entering the Manning school system, graduating from high school in 1918. On December 15, 1920, Catherine was united in marriage with Harry Petersen. To this union four children, Dorothy, Harold, Ralph, and Janice were born. Catherine found joy and happiness in many activities throughout her active years. Her love and concern for her family came first, followed closely by the kindnesses shown to the many children she cared for. Catherine was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Woman's Relief Corps and the Bible Readers.
After the death of her husband in 1974, Catherine moved to the Elm Crest Apartments where she lived until 1985 when she became a resident of the Manning Plaza. She died there on Saturday, February 9, 1991, at the age of 90 years and 9 months.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; by three brothers: James, in infancy, David, and Allen; and by three grandchildren.
Mourning her loss are her four children and their spouses: Dorothy and her husband, Glenn Rowedder, of Manning; Harold Petersen and his wife, Pat, of Laguna Hills, California; Ralph Petersen and his wife, Grace, of Marion; and Janice and her husband, Dick McConnell, of Early; a sister-in-law, Selma Dalgety, of Manning; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; as well as many other relatives and friends.
