Death of Mrs. Catharina Petersen
Mrs. Jacob Petersen, nee Carlsen, was born in Holstein, Germany, October 5, 1863.
She came to America and settled near Aspinwall in 1885 and was married to
Jacob Petersen March 8, 1886. Six children were born to this union: five girls and one boy.
Last March Mrs. Petersen was taken to the hospital at Council Bluffs where an operation
was performed in the hope of saving her life. But it was unsuccessful and last
Wednesday, June 10, 1908, as the sun was sinking to rest, she closed her eyes in eternal
sleep. Her struggles and burden bearing are ended. Mrs. Petersen was a good woman
and was the soul of honor; her friends and friendships were sacred to her. She is gone
from their sight, but as life and love are stronger than death, she is still theirs. The funeral
was held at the home, Rev. Guenther performing the last sad rites. She was followed to
her resting place in the Manning Cemetery by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. We
extend our sympathy to the bereaved ones.
