In Memory of Caroline Vonnahme

Caroline Vonnahme, 88, of Arcadia, formerly of Manning, died Sunday February 19, 2012, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Manning.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 22, 2012, from 4 to 9 PM, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. There will be a Prayer Service at 4:30 PM and a Rosary at 6:30 PM.
Celebrant for the mass will be Rev. Robert Gralapp and Concelebrant will be Rev. Richard Remmes. Lectors will be Eddie and Paul Vonnahme.
Eucharistic Ministers will be Darrell and Nancy Wittrock. Gift Bearers will be Lisa Scott, Jill Mach and Jessica Berger. Mass Servers will be Matt Vonnahme and Robert Tank.
Songs will be “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Be Not Afraid”, by Sacred Heart Choir and played by Anne Muhlbauer.
Casket Bearers will be Maria Vonnahme, Joe Vonnahme, Jeff Vonnahme, Kevin Wittrock, Krista Heuton and Michelle Vonnahme. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Manning, Iowa.

Caroline Marie, daughter of Frank X. and Agnes (Kemper) Irlmeier was born on March 3, 1923, at home in rural Templeton, Iowa. She attended Sacred Heart School and then worked in housekeeping at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll.

On February 5, 1947, Caroline was united in marriage with Clarence John Vonnahme at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. The couple had six children and made their home on a farm north of Manning. In addition to taking care of her children, Caroline helped on the farm and tended her garden and chickens.

In 1990 Caroline and Clarence retired and moved to Arcadia. Caroline was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning, St. John Church in Arcadia, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Christian Mothers, American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She taught C.C.D. for many years and also enjoyed quilting, embroidery and playing cards. Caroline was truly dedicated to the four F’s: Faith, Family, Friends and Farm.

After Clarence died in 2006 Caroline remained at home in Arcadia until January 2012, when she moved to the Swan House in Carroll. She was later admitted to St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll where she died on February 19, 2012, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 16 days.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandsons Steven Wittrock and Scott Wittrock; brothers: Lawrence, Albert, Herbert and Frank Irlmeier and sisters: Agnes Halbur, Ellen Irlmeier and Rita Stangl.

She is survived by her children: Tom Vonnahme and wife Maureen of Vail; David Vonnahme and wife Janice of Westside; Don Vonnahme and wife Teresa of Manning; Nancy and husband Darrell Wittrock of Audubon; Laurie and husband Melvin Berger of Westside and Mike Vonnahme of Manning; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Irlmeier of Carroll; Theresa Kasparbauer of Templeton; Rita Vonnahme of Arcadia; Delores Vonnahme of Mt. Carmel and Cecelia Vonnahme of Carroll; close and personal friend Mary Theresa Hoffman of Arcadia; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
