Funeral services for Caroline Dorothy "Lena" Schwiesow were held
Wednesday, December 26, 1984 at the Zion Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. Pastor
Paul Krumm officiated with Larry Genzen as vocalist and Dorothy Kusel,
organist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery with Richard Schwiesow,
Bruce Johnson, Bryan Johnson, Steven Daeges, Scott Schwiesow, and Stanley
Schwiesow as casket-bearers.
Caroline Dorothy "Lena" Schwiesow, daughter of Gustav and Marie Karsten Vinke, was born January 10, 1898, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended country schools.
On January 30, 1930, she was united in marriage with Walter Charles Schwiesow. They made their home on farms in Crawford and Shelby County. In the late 1950s they moved to Manning and made their home with George "Hotchy" Parish; and took care of him in his home.
Lena's husband died in 1962. She stayed in the Parish home for several years and then moved to her own home in Manning, and finally moved to the Terrace Apartments. For the past three years she has made her home at the Manning Plaza. She died there on December 23, 1984, at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 13 days.
Lena was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by two daughters, Fern in infancy, and Ruth Johnson of Coon Rapids in November of 1963; by two grandsons, Nicholas Daeges and Robin Schwiesow; by one great-grandson, Shaun Warner; by a brother, Julius Vinke; and by a sister, Amelia Weinbrandt. She is survived by five children: Bernice, Mrs. Ralph Dunlap of San Jose, California; Earl Schwiesow and his wife, Carol, of Fredericksburg, Iowa; Louis Schwiesow and his wife, Barbara, of Manilla; Colleen, Mrs. Vern Daeges of Harlan; and Victor Schwiesow and his wife, Donna, of Manning; by two brothers, Henry Vinke of Manning, and LeRoy Vinke of Carroll; by 25 grandchildren; and by 35 great-grandchildren.
