Carlos Wycoff OBITUARY
July 9, 1914 Manning Monitor

When Carlos Cushman Wycoff was called last Sunday, Judy 5th, 1914, to join the hosts that have gone before to meet Him who rules the universe, a saddened wife and community were left. His body was taken but the world is better by his living. He was upright and honest with his fellowmen and as a good neighbor he will be remembered as long as those who knew him live. He was a true and affectionate husband, and the family he raised speaks volumes for his duties as a man. His neighbors knew him as man with a heart large enough to hold all men as brothers.

The deceased was born at Elmore, Illinois, December 13, 1848, and died at his home near Botna, July 5th, 1914, aged 65 years, 6 months and 23 days. On February 1st, 1871, he was united in marriage to Verginia Slygh. To this union six children were born. Five are living, one son, John, having died while living near Botna, on March 25, 1896. Those living are Liston, Leonard, Mrs. Ellen Gordon, Stephen, and Mrs. Olive Stoker. Besides these, his wife, three brothers, one sister and 10 grand children survive to mourn, his untimely death.

He had been sick for over a year with gall trouble. He was given every care possible but without improvement. During the past month he improved somewhat and was able to take short trips in an automobile. The last week he failed rapidly and the end came Sunday.

The funeral was held at the home Wednesday, Rev. S.M. Lehman, pastor of the Nazarene Church of Botna, conducting the services. Following the services the sorrowing relatives and friends took the remains to the Manning Cemetery where interment was made.

The pallbearers were his sons, Stephen, Leonard and Liston, his son-in-laws, William Gordon and A.C. Stoker and Colin Campbell.
