Bud J.O. Wigg
Barthel "Bud" J.O. Wigg, the son of William and Hulda (Peterson) Wigg, was born December 9, 1926, in Pocahontas, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Bud attended school at Defiance. On March 27, 1945, Bud joined the United States Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He served in the Pacific Theater in Japan during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Bud was united in marriage to Doraine Thomsen on January 5, 1950, in Harlan, Iowa, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were the parents of four children: Diana, Bruce, Curtis and Darla. Bud was employed at Harlan Produce and Harlan Manufacturing. He later owned and operated his own business, the Harlan Radiator Shop in Harlan. Bud loved working around the house fixing anything that needed repairs and was considered a "Mr. Fix-It." In Bud's spare time, he enjoyed watching baseball and playing cards with family and friends. He spent many family vacations at Lake Okoboji. Bud enjoyed watching old western movies and was a member of the Harlan V.F.W. and was very proud to have served his country.

Bud was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren; he enjoyed rubbing their backs and feet. Bud even had a special nickname for each one of his grandchildren.

Bud died on Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of seventy-seven years, eleven months and two days. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Hensley and a brother, Elmer Wigg.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Doraine Wigg of Harlan, Iowa; two daughters: Diana and her husband, Bob Mumm of Gilman, Iowa and Darla and her husband, Travis Kurth of Harlan, Iowa; two sons: Bruce Wigg and his wife, Karen of LaPorte City, Iowa and Curtis Wigg and his wife, Mary Jo of Pacific, Missouri; twelve grandchildren: Jennifer Mumm and her significant other, Luke Sullivan of New York, New York; Greg Mumm of Marshalltown, Iowa; Amber and her husband, Travis Mumford of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Aaron, Brian, Catherine, and Dana Wigg, all of LaPorte City, Iowa; Daniel and Dana Wigg and Barthel Wigg of Pacific, Missouri; Courtney Burger and her significant other, Derek Monson of Omaha, Nebraska; Jordan and Zachary Kurth of Harlan, Iowa; one sister Luella "Tootle" Wigg of Harlan, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
