BETTY SCHOBA
Betty, daughter of William and Arla (Lohrmann) Dammann, was born June 20, 1940, in rural Manning. She attended country school and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1958 she graduated from Manning High School.
On November 19, 1960, Betty was united in marriage with Gilbert Leo Schoba at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Three children, William, Karen and Scott, were born to this union. In March of 1962 they returned to the Manilla area.
Betty worked at the Rusty Nail in Manilla for many years as a waitress and cook. In 1976 she started working as a dietary cook for the Manilla Manor and later became dietary supervisor. Betty was very outgoing and was active in many community events. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. She enjoyed golfing, cooking for family and friends, and being with her family. She enjoyed life to the fullest and will be truly missed by all.
Betty died unexpectedly at her home in Manilla on Saturday, January 7, 1995, at the age of 54 years 6 months and 18 days.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Schoba, of Manilla; her children: William Schoba and his fiancee, Candy Lee, of Holdenville, Oklahoma; Karen and her husband, Daniel "Doc" McClelland, of Raytown, MO.; and Scott Schoba and his fiancee, Vickie Friedrichsen, of Manilla; six grandchildren: Cory Rutherford McClelland, Nathan McClelland, Tiffanie Friedrichsen, Amber Friedrichsen, Jeremy Dutcher, and Laurie Dutcher; her mother, Arla Dammann, of Manning; two brothers and a sister: Dale Dammann and his wife, Carolyn, of Manning; David Dammann and his wife, Linda of Ralston, NE.; and Ruby and her husband, Allen Vinke, of Lee Summitt, MO.; a brother-in-law: Jacob Schoba and his wife, LaVerne, of Milwaukee, WI.; Martha and her husband, Lester Selby, of Greenfield, Wisconsin; and Patricia and her husband, James Wentland, of Reedsburg, WI.; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services were held on Tuesday, January 10, 1995, at 2:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. The Pastor Timothy Geitz officiated the service. Bonnie Lorenzen provided organ accompaniment for music "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Just as I am, Without One Plea."
Honorary casketbearers were Frank Boeck, Gene Sleister, Craig Vinke, Jeff Joens, Steve Kiner, Todd Vinke. Casketbearers were Mike Kloewer, Jim Gross, Mike McMahon, Larry Justice, Gilbert Bandow, Robert Titus.
Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery at Manilla. The family invited those present to join them for lunch and fellowship at the church following the service.
