MRS. BERTHA SUTHERLAND
Mrs. Bertha Cornelia Sutherland, 84, died Saturday, October 22, 1960, at the Audubon County Hospital, after being seriously ill for the past month. She was the widow of Donald W. Sutherland, well-known Manning banker.

Eastern Star funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, at the Ohde Funeral Home here. The Rev. Carl Sinning, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Ray Pratt will be soloist, and Bonita (Mrs. H.W.) Hagedorn, organist. Pallbearers will be Lyle O. Arp, Lyle J. Schrum, William Alexander, Donald Wayne Sutherland, Donald Johnston, and Willis Calkins. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Mrs. Sutherland, a daughter of William S. and Harriet Cornelia (Power) Lee, was born at Corning January 1, 1876. She graduated from Corning High School, attended Corning Academy, and graduated from Parsons College, Fairfield. She taught school for a number of years and in 1903 and 1904 was high school principal at Manning. She married Donald W. Sutherland June 6, 1905, at Bozeman, Montana, and had lived in Manning since that time. She was active in church and civic affairs. A member of the Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, she served as Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years. She was a member, past Matron and past Grand Officer in the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of P.E.O.

Surviving are two step-sons, Ralph G. Sutherland and Ernest D. Sutherland, both of Manning: five grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews. Her husband, parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
