Obituary of Mrs. Bertha Schwiesow
(Submitted by Mrs. H.C. Thomssen)

It is with sincere and deep regret that we are called upon this week to report the death of Mrs. Bertha Schwiesow, one of Aspinwall's most highly respected and beloved citizens. She had been an invalid for over twenty years, sitting in her wheel chair day after day but never complaining; always concerned over the welfare of others. She loved to have company and always enjoyed a good talk with everyone. She will be greatly missed by her children, relatives and all those who knew her for the splendid person she was.

Bertha Schwiesow nee Wenzel became ill on Friday, March 10, and all that medical skill and loving care could do was done for her but to no avail, and she passed away at 1:45 Sunday morning, March 19, 1939.

She was born in Pomeranian, Germany, on March 17, 1863. She was the youngest child of Phillip and Maria Wenzel. She came to America with her parents seven years later and lived in Clinton County for three years, then moved to Crawford County where she lived all the rest of her life.

On November 25, 1885, she married John C. Schwiesow and they lived in Crawford County continuously with the exception of one year in Carroll County. They lived in Aspinwall for 25 years.

This union was blessed with ten children; Marie, Mrs. Harry L. Schroeder; Walter of Botna and, Rosa at home; also four grandchildren, who are left to mourn her departure. Her husband and seven children, five brothers and one sister, all preceding her in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran church in Manilla with Rev. Johann M. Ansorge of Manning in charge. Pallbearers were six nephews, Hugo and Ernest Wenzel, R.C. Bahls, Jahn and Henry Grimm, and Siegfried Wenzel.

We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved mourners.

Note from Nishnabotna Township Cemetery notations: Bertha was the daughter of Sabastian and Maria T. (Hagman) Wenzel
