BERTHA ELIZABETH MOORE
Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Elizabeth Moore, 85, were held at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning on Monday, April 27, 1964, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Nancy Nichols of the Irwin Methodist Church officiating. Mrs. Rodney Wilbeck was soloist; Mrs. LeRoy Pearson, organist, Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Daughter of George and Mary (Hendricker) Wallentine, she was born at Emden, Illinois, on July 13, 1878. She lost her hearing as an infant and for seven years attended a school for the deaf at Jacksonville, Illinois. In 1891, she came to Des Moines County with her family, and attended the Council Bluffs School for the Deaf, graduating in 1898. She met her husband, Brick M. Moore of Botna at the school, and they were married on March 6, 1901.

They lived on a farm in the Botna area until his death on September 19, 1951. Mrs. Moore moved to her present home in Manning in 1952. She suffered a fall at home on March 27, and was taken to Manning General Hospital, where she died on Friday, April 24, 1964.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Fred and Philip and two sisters, Lydia and Carrie.

She leaves two children; Clinton Moore, Manning; Mrs. Carl (Marjorie) Frank, Manning; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Chris Wallentine and a sister, Hulda Wallentine, both of Burlington.

Pallbearers at the rites were Tom Campbell, Ernest Ehlers, Marvin Linde, Leslie Doyel, Ben D. Joens and Wilbur Anthony.


Bertha Moore is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
