Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Martens, 85, Manning, were held on Wednesday morning, February 19, 1969, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Burial was in the Manning cemetery. Pall bearers were Harold Ruhde, Alvin W. Martens, Walter Martens, Delbert Hinz, Irwin Witt, and Lester Karsten.
Daughter of Wilhelm and Johanna (Clausen) Ruhde, she was born April 5, 1883, in Davenport and came to Manning some years later with her parents. She married Henry Martens on February 20, 1907, and had made her home in Manning since that time. Mr. Martens died in 1962.
The couple had two sons. Edwin died in 1937, and Orville. Mrs. Martens died at the Manning General Hospital early Monday morning February 17. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, her parents, two brothers, Peter and William Ruhde, and two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Hinz and Mrs. Rose York.
She is survived by her son Orville of Omaha and a sister Mrs. Emma Karsten, Manning.
