Bertha J. Gessmann Mundt

Mrs. Bertha Mundt, the daughter of Jacob and Caroline (Hoffmann) Gessmann, was born March 22, 1891, near Manilla. She lived in the rural Manning and Manilla areas except for one year in California.

She was united in marriage to Fred Mundt on February 28, 1912. The family lived until 1944 in the Manilla area and then moved to a farm near Manning. They retired to the town of Manning in 1956.

Bertha died Friday afternoon, February 13, 1976, at Manning General Hospital after a long illness, at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 21 days.

She was preceded by two brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her husband Fred who is a resident of the Manning Plaza, one son Delmar of Manning, one daughter Lorene (Mrs. Mark Enenbach) of Chicago, 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mathilda McMahon and Minnie Gessman of California, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 16 at 2 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Father Norbert Weber of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church was in charge. Organist was Mrs. Bonita Hagedorn and vocalist was Mrs. Judy Joens. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary, Randy, and Dick Mundt, Dick Brusegaard, Jim Stessman and Gary King.
