The Rite of Christian Burial for Bernadette Loretta Peters was held Thursday, June 1, 1995, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Father Ralph Reinhart was celebrant with music by the Sacred Heart Choir.
Interment was held at the Manning City Cemetery in Manning.
Larry Behrens, Alan Behrens, Steve McCollum, Bob Behrens, Tom Clark, and David Boehme served as casketbearers.
Prayers were held on Wednesday, May 31, 1995, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 3:30 p.m., and a prayer service followed by Rosary at 7:00 p.m. held at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Bernadette Loretta Peters, daughter of Otto and Bernadine Klocke Behrens, was born July 11, 1923, at Templeton, Iowa. She grew up in Templeton and graduated from Sacred Heart High School there in 1940. After graduation Bernadette worked in Sioux City during the war at a plant that made armatures for airplanes. On May 6, 1946, she was united in marriage with Gilbert H. Peters at Templeton. After their marriage they made their home in Manning and in 1947 they purchased their home at 912 S. Main Street where they lived all their lives. Bernadette and Gilbert were the parents of three children, JoAnn, Janice, and Brian.

Bernadette enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She worked several places in Manning during her lifetime, including Lewis Reinhold Drug Store, Liquor Store, L.R. Nelson Corp., and Congegate Meals. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning, Catholic Daughters of America, Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the Little Flower Study Club.

Bernadette was diagnosed with cancer in 1991. She got along quite well until the past several months when her health began to fail. She died on Monday, May 29, 1995, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 71 years, 10 months, and 18 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Loretta in infancy, and Marion Clark; and four brothers: Herbert, Ed-ward, Cyril, and Otis Behrens.

Survivors include her husband, Gilbert, of Manning; her children: JoAnn and her husband, Edward Ohl, of Sparta, New Jersey; Janice and her husband, Dr. Larry Boehme, of Hillsboro, Wisconsin; and Brian Peters and his wife, Janet, of Lewisville, Texas; eight grand-children: Erika and Alex Ohl; Andrea, Lorna, Courtney, and David Boehme; and Nathan and Drew Peters; a brother, Eugene Behrens and his wife, Olive, of Florissant, Missouri; three sisters-in-law: Helen Behrens of Halbur; Mildred Schwarting of Milford; and Sophia Muhlbauer Behrens Kuhse of Long Beach, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Manning General Hospital.


Bernadette Peters is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
