MRS. CLIFFORD MARTENS

Funeral services for Mrs. Clifford (Berdyne Alma) Martens, 81, of Avoca, were held on Monday, November 17, at 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with Rev. Robert Rushing of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Cousins were pallbearers: Amos Wiese, Dewey Wiese, Lester Meggers, Dewey Hargens, Merlyn Hargens, and Louie Hargens.

Daughter of Chris and Anna (Wiese) Hargens, she was born November 13, 1918, at Manning, and attended school at Manning and Manilla. She was married on December 9, 1936, to Clifford Martens.

The couple farmed near Westside until 1947, then moved to Walcott for five years. They also lived on farms near Spirit Lake and Elk Horn, and four years ago moved to Avoca.

Mrs. Martens was in ill health for two years, and died late Friday afternoon, November 14, 1969, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a half-sister. She is survived by her husband and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Leroy (Arlyne) Lueth, Manilla; Harry, Omaha; Virtus, Le Mars; Lester, Avoca; Ralph, Nickerson, Nebraska; Harvey, North Bend, Oregon; Mrs. Bill (Lois) Crane, Rock Rapids; Mrs. Tom (LaVonne) Culver, Carmichael, California; Billie, Perry; and a half-brother, Roy Hargens of North Bend, Oregon.
