Bennie George Otto
Bennie George, son of Carl and Katherine (Hass) Otto, was born September 28,
1918, at Aspinwall, in Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized by Pastor William
Frese in Denison and later confirmed into the
Lutheran faith by Pastor Ansorge at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Bennie
attended rural school near his home. After completing his schooling he helped his father farm in Iowa Township.
On August 20, 1950, Bennie was united in marriage with Geniece Jahn at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. One daughter was born to this union. They continued to farm the family farm in Iowa Township. In December of 1969 they moved to an acreage north of Manning. In 1986, they retired from farming and then moved into Manning in 1988.
Bennie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and playing cards - especially euchre. He took great pride in caring for his lawn in town.
Bennie had been in failing health for several weeks before his death at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday, December 15, 1999, at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 17 days.
Bennie is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Elmer Otto; Heine Otto; and Willie Otto.
Bennie is survived by his wife Geniece Otto of Manning; daughter Beverly and her husband Neil Woebke of Irwin; four grandchildren: Danyal and her fiancee Dan, Clint, Nick, and Garet Woebke; one great-grandchild Seth Knight; a brother Louie Otto and his wife Dalores of Manning; two sisters: Melinda Dammann of Manilla and Milda Malone of Carroll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
