Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the Ohde Funeral Home for Benjamin Martin Welch, 63, of Manning, who died Monday morning, April 8, 1957, at the Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Rev. J.A. Lippincott of the Methodist Church will officiate. Ray Pratt will be vocal soloist and Bonita (Mrs. Henry W.) Hagedorn, organist.
Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grover Bartels, Pete Struve, Lyle Hansen, Eddie Fischer, and Francis Brennan.
Mr. and Mrs. Welch, who had been vacationing in California since early January, were in route home when Mr. Welch became ill, and was admitted to the hospital in Las Vegas.
Mr. Welch was born November 30, 1893, in Audubon County, near Gray, a son of Orrin Scott and Isabelle (Arnold) Welch. He attended Gray public school.
He was married to Abel Dietz of Manning June 2, 1913, at Carroll, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Welch farmed in the Manning vicinity for 27 years. Retiring 16 years ago, they moved to Manning at that time. Mr. Welch was a salesman for the Manning Motor Company.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Roland Welch, Kearney, Nebraska; M-Sgt. Merlin Welch, Westover Air Force Base, Massachusetts; T-Sgt. Orrin Welch, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana; a daughter, Mrs. Mack (Dorothy) McCullough, Hastings, Nebraska, and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Howard; his parents; four brothers, Clinton, who died in W.W.I., Earl, Lloyd, and Ivan, a sister, Hazel and half-sister, Myrtle.
Mr. Welch was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Manning Fire Department.
