Old Settler Passes Away
August 18, 1910 Manning Monitor

Benjamin Myatt Died at His Home in This City Sunday Evening.

Benjamin Myatt was born in Staffordshire, England, April 12, 1845. He came to America with his parents in 1852, settling in Clinton County, Iowa. In the fall of 1869 he was married to Miss Lutitia Gregg and moved to Carroll County in 1874, residing here ever since. While a lad yet in his teens he gave his heart to God uniting with the Methodist Episcopal Church of which he continued a member till death. He was superintendent of one of the first Sunday schools in this part of the county and for many years class leader of the church in Manning. Defective hearing caused him to lose much of the benefits of Church services during the last few years, but his faith was unwavering and in the hour of need was an anchor to his soul. The fatal sickness which lasted for nearly four weeks was a weary trial and toward the last very painful. The end came Sunday evening, August 14, 1910. The funeral services were, held at the M.E. Church, Tuesday, August 16, at 2 p.m. The choir rendered several of the favorite hymns of the deceased and the writer preached from Psalm 42:2. At the grave the social lodge of A.O.U.W. conducted their beautiful burial ritual, and with the usual church services the body was laid in the grave.

A kind husband and father, a good neighbor and useful member of society has gone from us. May the bereaved ones have the consolation that God only can give.
R.E. HARVEY.
