August Stangl, one of the best known citizens of this community, died at his home last Thursday at 8 a.m. after a sickness lasting for some time. Kind hands and doctors skill could not stay the hand of death although every possible thing was done. A little over twenty years ago he came to this community and has been one of its enterprising citizens since.
A wife and fifteen children survive, two having preceded him to the great beyond. The names of the sorrowing children are Elizabeth, Fred, Anna, Mary, William, Dora, Tressa, Eddie, Tillie, Katie, Clara, Aggie, August, Ernis, and Loretta, all of whom were present at the funeral. Besides these he leaves a wife and many relatives and friends.
The deceased was born at Petersberg, Iowa, July 18, 1858. The funeral was held at the Catholic Church Monday forenoon, Father Thoennesen giving the last sad rites of the church over his body. Afterwards kind hands took the body to the Catholic Cemetery where it was laid at rest. The funeral was a large one, many friends coming for miles to pay their last sad respect to their departed friend. The sorrowing family has the heartfelt sympathy of their friends in their hour of sorrow.
