An early settler and pioneer, a prominent farmer and resident of this vicinity, August Porsch passed away Friday evening, December 31, 1937, at 87 years of age.
Mr. Porsch was born on February 23, 1850, in Hagenau, East Prussia, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He remained in the land of his birth until he had reached the age of 27 years. In 1877 he came to this country, locating near Atlantic where he found work as a laborer on the railroad.
In 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Wilhelmine Kienast, the ceremony taking place in Atlantic. Eight children were born to this union. In 1879, they moved to Audubon where he began farming northeast of town. He remained in the vicinity of Audubon until 1883 when they moved to Lincoln Township, where he has lived ever since.
In 1895, his wife passed away. Also three children preceded him in death.
In 1896, he remarried, his second wife being Wilhelmine Koalles.
She passed away in September 1927 and since her death he made his home with his children.
Of late the deceased became quite feeble because of old age and a weak heart. On Friday evening of last week, December 31, he fell asleep peacefully, having reached the ripe old age of 87 years, 10 months, and 8 days.
He leaves to mourn his passing, the children, Mrs. Herman Schrock of Appleton, Minnesota; Theodore Porsch of Coon Rapids;
Adolf (Mrs. William) Wiemann and Miss Ella Porsch, all of Lincoln Township; besides 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday afternoon with Rev. F.C. Israel officiating. Internment was in the Lincoln Township Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Arnold and Herman Porsch, Reinhold and Walter Borkowski and Walter and Henry Schrock.
