Funeral services were for August Ploog on Saturday, May 6, 1978, at 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning,
with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning officiating.
Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Ivan Wurr, Art Fielweber, Stanley Ewoldt, Jerome Irlbeck, Walter Lage
and Franklin Mohr as casketbearers. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
August, son of Herman and Sophie Ockles Ploog, was born May 10, 1894, in Fredrichskoog, Holstein, Germany. He attended schools in Germany and served in the German Army during World War I. He came to the United States in 1923 to the Manning community and on October 14, 1925 was united in marriage with Helena Bunz. They farmed near Manning until moving into town in 1954. August passed away Wednesday evening, May 3, 1978, in the Manning General Hospital following a short illness at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 23 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant ' son, three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Helena, by two daughters, Marie, Mrs. Richard Pettengill of Dyersville, Iowa, Kathleen, Mrs. David Spencer of Cudahy, California; by 3 grandchildren, Rebecca, Holly and Steven Davis; and by 4 sisters in Germany.
