Arlo Tate

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - Arlo Lathrop Tate, 87, of Spirit Lake died Wednesday, August 19, 1998, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, with the Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will be at 12:45 p.m. Saturday in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Tate was born April 1, 1911, in Manning, Iowa, the son of Albert and Lois (Lathrop) Tate. He attended school and graduated in Rossie, Iowa.

He married Elsie Fields on May 21, 1939, in Royal, Iowa. The couple farmed near Rossie until moving to Spirit Lake in 1974. She died in 1986.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Ellen and John Sundblad of Polk City, Iowa, and Nancy and David Toering of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four grandchildren, Kimberly Sundblad, Heidi Bokma, Shane Toering and Natalie Christians; five great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Beryl and Mel Moser of Spencer.

Pallbearers will be Karl Baisch, Shane Toering, Kirby and Lowell Fields, Bob Nelson and Lowell Wade.
