Ardella Marie Mullen

Ardella Marie Mullen, 80, died peacefully on Monday, October 8, 2012, at Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, Washington, after a long struggle with cancer and kidney dialysis. Born June 6, 1932, in Manning, Iowa, to Herman and Elsie (Miller) Frahm, Ardella graduated from Iowa State College in 1954 with a degree in Journalism and furthered her interest in elementary education with studies at Colorado State College where she met her husband, Neill. They married August 5, 1956, in Manning.

Ardella began her teaching career as a fourth grade teacher in Harlan, and then in Portland, Oregon. The couple moved to Germany in 1959, returning in 1965 to live in Bellingham, Washington. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years where she was instrumental in developing the preschool and taught Sunday school. Dell finished her career teaching Braille to visually impaired students in the Bellingham School District.

Her family fondly remembers her as a dedicated homemaker and baker. Her cinnamon buns took first place at the Lynden State Fair. She loved music and was an accomplished flutist, playing often for church services and holidays.

Ardella loved the Lord and put His teachings into practice in her ministrations to others. She was widely known as generous, compassionate and caring.

She is preceded in death by Neill, her husband of 56 years. She is survived by her two brothers Stan Frahm of Rancho Santa Fe, California, and Lyle (Darlene) Frahm of Columbia Falls, Montana, three sons, Peter (Stacia), Michael (Kristin) and Jeffrey (Amy) and three grandchildren, Joshua, Wyatt and Jacob as well as many other relatives and loving friends.

Interment will be at Bayview Cemetery and a memorial service will be held 11 am, Wednesday, October 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bellingham, Washington.
