Anna Amelia Lorenzen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lorenzen was born in Crawford County, Iowa, on October 21, 1880. She received her schooling at Denison, Iowa, and on November 24, 1898, she was united in marriage to John B. Wiese.
They settled on a farm at Denison and moved to Manning in the fall of 1911. They farmed there until returning to Crawford County in 1919. In 1924 they moved to South Dakota where they farmed until retiring on the farm northwest of Flandreau.
Mr. Wiese passed away in January 1966 and for the past five years Mrs. Wiese has made her home at Riverview Manor in Flandreau where she passed away on Thursday, October 5, 1972. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Henry (Adeline) Christiansen, Denison, Iowa; Mrs. Herbert (Johanna) Volkmann, Deloit, Iowa; Mrs. Emil (Marie) Koenck, Truman, Minnesota; Mrs. Richard (Edythe) Garrison, Camas, Washington; Mrs. Henry (Winnifred) Luschen and Mrs. Ervin (Maxine) Doyle, both of Flandreau, South Dakota; Mrs. Raymond (Alice) Richael, Garretson, South Dakota; two sons, Robert, Wilmont, Minnesota; and Andrew, Flandreau, South Dakota; one brother Andrew Lorenzen, Long Beach, California; 35 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on October 9 at the Second Presbyterian Church in Flandreau, South Dakota, with the Rev. Solomon Gruneich officiating, and at 3 p.m. at the Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Denison. There were duets at the services sung by Mrs. Herman Steenhoven and Mrs. Minnie Locke and by Mr. and Mrs. Bonard Christiansen. Pallbearers were Norvald Scofield, Harley Koch, Herman Peper, Ronald Richael, Robert Wiese, John Wiese, Francis Jewett, Henry Bell, Robert Suhr, Palmer Volkmann, Robert Koenck, and Dale Christiansen.
