Mrs. Anna K. Werder, who has been in declining health since the first of the year, died at 9:05 this morning June 20, 1941, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Herbers, about one mile west of Halbur. Had she lived until July 18, Mrs. Werder would have been 84 years old.
The body will be returned from Ohde Funeral Home at Manning to the family home near Halbur Friday evening. The Rev. Theo. A. Tews, pastor of the Lutheran Church at Arcadia will conduct the funeral services at the home at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in the family lot in the Arcadia Cemetery.
Mrs. Werder, a longtime resident of this community, was born Anna K. Wittrock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wittrock, July 18, 1857, in Brunsbuettel, Neider, Dithmarschen, Germany. When seven years old, she came to the United States with her parents, who settled in Davenport.
March 1, 1877, she married August Werder at Boone, with the Rev. Dofrey Endres officiating. In 1890 they came to Carroll County from Clarence, Iowa. Mr. Werder died March 23, 1920.
Mrs. Werder was the mother of five children, two of whom survive. They are Mrs. Joseph Herbers (Margaret), of Halbur and Harry Werder of Washington D.C. Fred died April 26, 1890, at the age of 12 years, Mary of diphtheria, May 3, 1890, at the age of eleven; Grover in 1888 at the age of two.
Mrs. Werder leaves six grandchildren, Mrs. Joe Rotert (Marie) of Lidderdale, and Helene, Margaret, Orry, Gertrude, and Edna Herbers.
Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mary Otto of Los Angeles, California, a step-brother, Hans Degen of Ireton, Iowa, and a half-brother, Henry Wittrock of St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mrs. Werder was a member of the Lutheran Church.
She belonged to the Carroll Daily Herald and Times Three Quarter Century Club.
