Anna Catharina Martens, daughter of George and Mary Thomsen, born November 28, 1887, in Crawford County, Iowa, passed away November 12, 1951, in Carroll, Iowa, following a lingering illness of several months. She reached the age of 63 years, 11 months, and 14 days.
In infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran Church. She lived her childhood days as well as the days of her youth in the community in which she was born.
Anna was united in marriage to William F. Martens June 20, 1906. The first ten years of their married life were spent farming after which they moved to Manning, Iowa, where Mr. Martens found employment as a railroad worker. The last two years of her life were lived in Harlan, Iowa with part of it in the home of her son Harold.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1950. Her passing is mourned by three sons, Louie of Carroll, LeRoy of Omaha, Nebraska and Harold of Harlan, Iowa; by one daughter, Mrs. Helen Christiansen of Gray, Iowa, one sister Mrs. Lena Vehrs of Manilla, Iowa, by two brothers, Louie of Harlan, Iowa, and Herman of Glidden, Iowa; also by nine grandchildren as well as a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral services were conducted Wednesday from the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa, with the Rev. S.S. Kaldahl, Lutheran Pastor of Harlan, in charge.
Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.
