Anna Schuemann Rites Were Sunday
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Schuemann, 74, were
held from the First Lutheran Church Sunday, October 27 with the Rev. Joseph Gerlt officiating. Burial was in the Avoca Cemetery.
Mrs. Schuemann, the oldest of ten children born to Henry Burmeister and his wife, Abel Leopold, was born near Lewis on March 2, 1883. She died at the Atlantic hospital on Friday, October 25, 1957, from complications of the flu epidemic.
She was married to John Schuemann on February 19, 1903, and soon after their marriage they moved to a farm southeast of Harlan where they lived for 8 years. They then moved to the Schuemann farm southeast of Avoca where they farmed until the death of Mr. Schuemann in 1932.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harry C. Jacobsen of Avoca and Mrs. John DeVolld of Dawson; two sons, Henry and Leroy both of Avoca; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Louie Karstens, Mrs. William Eggerss, Alma Burmeister and Mrs. Paul Eggerss all of Avoca; three brothers, Herman of Harlan, Louis of Gravette, Arkansas, and Henry of Emerson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother John and a sister, Christine.
She was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church of Avoca.
