Last Rites Held Here For Anna C. Schroeder
Anna Christina Schroeder was born January 2, 1858, at Holzbunge, Holstein, Germany and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Pastor Nissen at Hohn, Germany in the year 1876.
The deceased came to America with her sister Catherine Kruse and settled at Goose Lake, Clinton County, where for a year she assisted with the house work on a farm. It was at Goose Lake that she married Henry F. Schroeder and the couple moved to Hayes Township, Crawford County, where they lived for many years on the farm. In 1910 they moved to Manning and resided here until 1918 when they moved to Egan, South Dakota, to make their home.
Mrs. Schroeder had been ill two weeks previous to her death. She passed away Saturday, July 29th, 1939, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Stombough at Egan at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 28 days. She leaves to mourn her passing, the following children: Mrs. John (Augusta) Vinke of Manning, Herman Schroeder of Flandreau, South Dakota; August, Louie, Henry and Mrs. Emma Stombough of Egan, South Dakota, Hannes of Manning and Mrs. Frieda Jahn of Manilla. She also leaves 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Fred Schroeder of Preston, Iowa and three sisters, Mrs. Nick Wilma of and Mrs. Louie Kruse of Preston, and Mrs. Marie Fleming of Charlotte, Iowa. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. One son, Frederic, gave his life during the first World War.
Following services at the home at Egan Tuesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Juneman, the body was brought to Manning where funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran church with Rev. Juneman of Egan and Rev. Johann M. Ansorge of Manning officiating. Burial was in the Hayes Township cemetery.
Acting as pall bearers were six grandsons: Vernon and Wilbert Schroeder, Arlo and Verdus Schroeder and Louie and Paul Jahn.
