Anna Marie Saunders
Anna Marie, daughter of Hans and Lizzie (Kai) Lamaack, was born November 9,
1905, in Manning, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Anna attended school in Manning and Manilla.
Anna was united in marriage with George Saunders of Manilla. They farmed near Manilla on the original Saunders farmstead until 1935, when they moved to Idaho, eventually settling in California. Anna was primarily a homemaker throughout her life. However, she did work at other jobs and for many years, with her husband owned and operated a motel in San Leandro.
After the death of her husband on October 31, 1980, Anna continued to live in California, the most recent 16 years in Walnut Creek, near her daughter, Lee Etta. She died there on March 9, 1998, at the age of 93 years, and 4 months.
Besides her husband and parents, Anna was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Saunders; a son-in-law, Jim Ryan; two brothers, Harry and Henry Lamaack; and two sisters, Geraldine Schroeder and Edna Meggers.
Anna is survived by two daughters: Lee Etta Ryan, of Walnut Creek, California; and Barbara and her husband, Russell Burns, of South Lyon, Michigan; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Norma Lamaack, of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
