IN MEMORIAM ANNA PAULSEN

Funeral services for Anna Paulsen were held Thursday, January 19, 1984, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church Manning, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Krumm officiating. Dorothy Kusel was organist and Larry Genzen, vocalist for the services. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery with Ed Ramsey, Merlin Struve, Marvin Wiemann, Ronnie Hiatt, Eddie Fischer, and Merle Stoelk as casketbearers.

Anna, daughter of Hans and Anna (Jensen) Klindt, was born June 13, 1889 at Maquoketa, Iowa. The family moved to a farm just south of Manning when Anna was a young girl.

She was united in marriage with Adolph Paulsen in 1908. To this union were born two children, Bernice and Vinton. They lived in Manning; Adolph operated a dray wagon. Adolph died during the flu epidemic in 1919.

Anna continued to make her home in Manning. She operated the Club Cafe on Main Street where the Manning Public Library now stands. The building was damaged by fire in the early 1950's; at that time she moved to the building now occupied by Merle Stoelk and operated Ann's Cafe until the late 1950's. In 1960 she started working for Merle Stoelk and continued her job until she broke her hip in 1977. She moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home on June 1, 1977 and continued to reside there until her death on January 16, 1984 at the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by a grandson, Michael; by two sisters, Mrs. George (Emma) Becker, and Mrs. Albert (Elsie) Stoelk; and by one brother, Harry Klindt.

She is survived by her daughter, Bernice, Mrs. Claus Nielsen of Manning; by her son Vint Paulsen of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; by four grandchildren; by nine great grandchildren; and by two great-great grandchildren.

Members of the family and friends are invited to the Church Fellowship Hall for lunch and fellowship following the service.


Anna Paulsen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
