FUNERAL OF MRS. JOHN OPPERMAN TO BE HELD TODAY

Passed Away Tuesday Noon After Illness Extending Over Year

The death of Mrs. John Opperman, well known and highly esteemed resident of this community occurred at the family home here Tuesday, September 27, 1928. Her death followed an illness of more than a year.

In August of last year deceased submitted to an operation in order to regain her health. Though the operation was successful, the desired object was not achieved for she was suffering with cancer. On September 14 she returned home and ever since her condition varied. For over a year she lingered, her condition growing worse gradually and causing her intense pain and agony until on Tuesday around noon, after a severe attack, the angel of death relieved her of, earthly suffering.

Anna Marie Opperman, nee Rathjer, was born November 21, 1871, in Lunden, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, a daughter of Hans and Anna Rathjer. At the age of one and one-half years she lost her mother in death and at the age of four years her father also was taken from her, leaving her an orphan.

At the age of eleven years she came to the United States, making, her home with her sister, Mrs. Nick Rostermundt at Manning. She remained here until the time of her marriage to John Opperman on February 14, 1890.

This union was blessed with nine children, four of whom preceded the mother in death. The surviving relatives are the bereaved husband, John Opperman, and five children, namely: Harry Opperman of Sioux City, Gilbert Opperman and Mrs. Annie Farley of Manilla, Mrs. Hilda Nissen of Aspinwall and Mrs. Bertha Kraach of Yetter. She is also survived by one sister and twelve grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the home this (Thursday) afternoon at 1 o'clock and will be followed by services at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1:45 o'clock. The pastor, Rev. F.C. Israel, will conduct the services. Following services at the church, the remains will be taken to Manning for interment.

The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved relatives.


Anna Opperman is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
