Anna Matteson
DEATH OF MRS. MATTESON.
Mrs. Anna Eliza Matteson, wife of James T. Matteson, died at her late home four miles east
of Manning, Friday, August 23, at 5 P.M. at the age of 48 years, of dysenterical troubles.
Deceased was born in Danville, Pennsylvania, January 26, 1846, and with her parents moved to Grinnell, Iowa, in 1868. In 1869 she was united in marriage to her present husband, her maiden name being Anna Eliza Banghart. Two children were born to them, one of which, a son 14 years of age survives her. She has three brothers and two sisters, all of whom are living. In 1866 she united with the M.E. church and has lived a useful and Christian life, and for her the grim reaper had no terrors. Death was simply a journey from a sterile country to one of living fountains. She leaned on the promises of God and realized in death that they failed not. Mrs. Matteson's long residence in this locality gave her a wide acquaintance and the announcement of her death cast a pall of sorrow over the entire community. She was a lady possessed of many admirable qualities, kind and generous to a fault; was a lovable wife and indulgent mother, and her many deeds of human kindness will stand for years a monument to the noble life she has lived.
The funeral was held from the Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Eckles conducting the services. The remains were followed to their final resting place by a large concourse of sympathizing friends.
