Funeral services were held for Mrs. Anna Martens on April 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, South Dakota. Rev. Richard Meyer, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington Springs.
Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Harvey Adams, Walt Polzien, Emil David, Ralph Carlson, Leonard Carlson, and Alvin Carlson. Mrs. Glen Schafer was organist.
Anna, daughter of Christian and Wilhelmina (Wohlert) Kusel was born October 25, 1891, in Carroll County, Iowa. She died on April 30, 1971, in a Mitchell, South Dakota, hospital following a long Illness.
Her parents moved to Bloomfield, Nebraska, where she grew up. In 1909 she was married to William Emmons. To this union one daughter, Lillian, Mrs. Henry Marken was born. In 1909 she homesteaded near Newell. On September 1, 1913, she was united in marriage to Henry Martens. To this union one son, Edward was born. He preceded her in death.
They lived near Newell until 1957 when they moved to a small acreage near Rapid City and in 1968 they moved to Wessington Springs to be near their daughter, who lives In Wessington Springs.
Survivors include one daughter, Lillian, Mrs. Henry Marken; her husband, Henry; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Edith Adams of Nebraska and other relatives and friends.
