Amanda Stoelk

Funeral services for Amanda Stoelk were held Saturday, August 19, 1995, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Manning, Iowa. Officiating the service was Reverend Marshall Brown. Interment was in the Manning City Cemetery with Ron Ehlers, Allen Ehlers, Gene Mahnke, Bob Ehlers, Randy Mahnke, and Larry Mahnke as casketbearers.

Honorary casketbearers were Robert Kruse, Leman Ehlers, Ray Ehlers, Merle Stoelk, Erwin Stoelk, Bill Roberts, Wallace "Bud" Backhaus, John Campbell, and Richard Mahnke.

Amanda, daughter of Henry and Rosa (Ehlers) Steen, was born April 15, 1896, northwest of Manning in Ewoldt Township, Carroll County, Iowa. She attended country schools near her home.

On December 16, 1919, Amanda was united in marriage with Frank Stoelk. They farmed in the Manning area until retiring in 1943 when they moved into Manning. Her husband died in 1976 and Amanda continued to live in her home until 1989, when due to failing health, she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

Amanda was a homemaker and completed many years of membership in the Busy Thimbles Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, UPW, and Circle. Throughout her life Amanda enjoyed her flowers, gardening and fishing.

Amanda died on Wednesday, August 16, 1995, at the Manning Plaza at the age of 99 years, 4 months, and 1 day.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ida Steen, as a child; three brothers: Emil, Grover, and Ed Steen; and two sisters-in-law: Amanda Lorenzen Steen and Malinda Nulle Steen.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law: Ella (Gruhn) Steen and Ella (Stoelk) Reimers, both of Manning and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
