AMANDA ST. ONGE
Amanda St. Onge, 98, a former nurse and piano teacher, died Tuesday, May 20, 1986, in the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 23, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with Pastor Randy Ross officiating.

JoAnn Karsten will be organist and Larry Genzen vocalist. Burial will be in the Vivian, South Dakota, Cemetery with Dr. Gordon Higgins of the Pierre, South Dakota, First United Methodist Church, officiating at the graveside. Serving as casketbearers will be Dave Moore, Otis Authier, Dick Smith, Mike Authier, Tom Authier, and Palmer Strom.

Mrs. St. Onge is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mary Brennan, Manning; a sister, Captolia Greteman with whom she shared a room at the nursing home, and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph St. Onge, two daughters: Edna Marie and Laura Marie; a son, Francis (Irish) Brennen; four sisters: Bertha Hinrichs as a child, Emma Ralph, Edith Rushenberg, and Margaret Butterworth, and a brother, Hans J. Hinrichs.

Mrs. St. Onge was born in Aspinwall, Iowa, on August 14, 1887, a daughter of Hans and Anna (Winkelmann) Hinrichs. As a small child she moved with her parents to Manning where she attended school.

As a young wife, she accompanied her husband, William Brennan, to Vivian, South Dakota, where they homesteaded. She studied nursing and was honored in Vivian one year for having delivered each of the 14 graduating seniors. She also gave piano lessons to many young people. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Manning and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Because of ill health, she returned to Manning in 1977 to be near her son, Francis.
